Child Therapy
As parents it can be hard to watch our kids struggle. It can feel overwhelming and confusing to figure out what’s the next step. Whether your child struggles with emotional regulation, staying focused, or frequent worries, we are here to help your child navigate through challenges at school and home. We work with you and your child to help problem solve and empower your child to better understand their emotions, experiences and behaviors.
How can we help you?
Our therapists help your child develop coping skills, tools to communicate their feelings, and ways to think about their experiences. We can assist you in navigating the challenges of school systems including special education, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans. We can work with providers within the school to collaborate and advocate for your child’s individual needs. We also provide parent support and education to help you understand what your child is trying to communicate through their behavior.
What does therapy with children look like?
Therapy with children can look a lot different then adult therapy. Many times kids aren’t able to sit on a couch discussing their challenges with a therapist. Instead, child therapy uses play, movement, and art to create a safe space for your child to express their feelings. We meet your child where they are at developmentally, and incorporate their interests into the sessions. This could look like coloring during a session, moving our bodies to express an emotion, or playing with toys.
Through imaginative play, children are able to create a safe distance to process their emotions and help them problem solve using their own creativity and imagination. Our role as the therapist is to help uncover what they are communicating with their behavior, and help them develop other skills to cope with their feelings.
